This anthology is designed as a companion volume to the theoretical and conceptual introduction to the methodology of humanities being brought out as an independent volume. This anthology contains essays that define the contours and parameters of social and political issues that inspire literary and other writings. In the process they also bring into sharper focus the ways in which the methodology of humanities and literary studies differ from the methodology of natural and physical sciences. For that reason essays that touch upon areas like literary theory, postcolonial reinterpretation of concepts and institutions including literature, study of narratives, gender, and other social hierarchies have been included in the volume. Care has been taken to include essays by the best authorities in the respective fields. Adequate explanatory notes too have been given at the end of each essay.
